we're 80, heat advisory start as noon. let's go to monika here at 6:00 a.m. with a look at the traffic. >> sounded like a broken record this week telling everybody if you approach an intersection that's dark, treat it as a four-way stop. it's still that situation today. you have about 25 to 30 signals out in montgomery county. police are directing only at major intersections. 270 is nice and light. a lot of people took the week off from july 4th into the weekend. you are seeing that 270 is very light. let's go outside live right now to show you what it looks like. route 355 signal lights are light. back over to the maps this time. north side and 95 between baltimore and us, everything is fine. a live look at the beltway in college park. prince george's county beltway looks great east side of town. coming up in my next report, we'll go south to 6:12. at the top of the hour, let's get the latest on the

seven locks road. a portion of the street appeared to have lights when we first arrived here and a little before 5:00 a.m. this morning. the other portion is completely in the dark. so that is probably part of the frustration. neighbors are seeing their other neighbors and folks across the street with power when they are suffering in the dark. let's look at some video that was shot yesterday as we toured around town taking a look at some of the destruction after the storm, and some of the cleanup. we have mentioned and andrea mentioned that crews are making some good headway. we are certainly more than halfway there. pepco says they are ahead of schedule and 90% of customers have been restored. for the 10% who are still in the dark, still very frustrating coming up at 6:30. we're going to have a look and a "hear" i guess about the

6:07 am
are deadly. we've learned from that every storm. so it's important for pepco to deenergize those wires and then our tree crews can get in. i think our dpw crews have performed admirablely during the storm and it's important that we coordinate. >> we didn't hear from any top d.c. officials. the mayor was out of town in china, the council chair, i don't remember him assuring pooh 'em they were on top of things and whatever. i had a problem with that. >> yeah. >> now the department of homeland security says it exposes us to potential terror attacks. what's the problem with not hearing from the top? >> the mayor was out of up to on a trip to china, and i think he began his trip back when the storm hit. i talked to our city administrator, who was our point person and was running point for the city.

it was important to, you know, i don't think he's used to being the face in front of the cameras, but it is important to get that type of message out to people. that's why i tried from the minute i was getting information. that's what people really crave, information. >> as you said this will happen again. homeland security said this about the snowstorms that we were exposing ourselves to terror. are we sitting down with the our jurisdictions? does the district have a plan on how to get organized with removing trees first or what happened? is that process happening? >> it is happening. i want people to realize i sit on the board where we talk about emergency response all of the time, how no get people in and out of town, how to get the streets cleaned. so that is a plan. but there's always more we can do because what we learned with this storm, i have lived in this neighborhood a long time and have seen a lot of storms but have never seen damage like this storm did. >> all right. thank you very much for being
